The Financial Services San Francisco Architect Roundtable was held in San Francisco on the 30th of May. This is the first of potentially many more vertical focused architecture events. If your an architect and you think that this may be valuable to your orginization please add a comment to this post. That way I can gauge the intrest of the community.
A big thanks to Dave Wright, who orginizied the event. The purpose of this event was to get some of the top architects in the area together to discuss their challenges and see how Microsoft can help. All who were surveyed said that the event was very valuable.
There were top IT technical decision makers in the represented Financial Services organizations. Roles included Enterprise Architects, Directors of Development and a VP of B2E Development.
It was very clear from the conversations that there were some core themes. Enterprise Architecture came up a bit because the crowd has realized that without a good EA function SOA would be hampered. There is a real interest in EA. One of the biggest challenges is that there is a lack of consistency across the IT commuinity as a whole. Given my EA background I will be focusing more on Enterprise Architecture to help both Financial Services and the other IT verticals at large.
