Gartner on New Skills Required For Enterprise Architects

I haven’t seen this video in awhile but I was refreshed with it in the Elevating Enterprise Architecture course and thought I would share with all of you.

The predictions from Gartner were in my opinion,  absolutely spot on. I believe we are seeing those predictions validated in the market continuously as time goes on.

Below is a video that walks through the Gartner view on the new skills EA’s must have in this ever evolving EA industry.

Some of the key messages that I extract out of this are:

  1. EA organizations must conduct them selves as a service provider with quantifiable value, metrics/KPIs, SLAs and predictable and repeatable results.

  2. The role of the enterprise architect has shifted from a purely technical guru

  3. Value identification and creation is critical

  4. The way in which an EA conducts his/her job has to shift from the “know it all IT person” to the collaborative, inclusive, empathic and professional style of doing business
